Learning and teaching switch skills to children with special needs will now be a little easier because of the Switch Filter.
Picture the situation, a young child just starting out with switches needs to understand that a single press is all that’s needed and multiple “bashes” or “banging” on a switch to make something happen is unnecessary, actually bad. Teaching “cause” and “effect” should now be easier.
This is how it works:
- The Switch Filter lets the first switch press through but then introduces a delay before the next switch press does anything.
- For example, the childs’ first switch press passes through the filter and turns on a toy. But a second press or multiple bashing of the switch would do nothing until the delay period, set by the filter, had passed.
The delay period is easily changed from long (~10secs) to short (~2secs) by plugging the input switch into one of the three sockets on the front panel.
The connected device e.g. a switch adapted toy is connected to the socket on the side panel.
Thanks to all the professionals that guided us in designing the Switch Filter.
We have built six we are using as demonstration units. Get in touch through the Contact Us page at the Dream-Racer web site if you would like to try one with the children in your care.
