These four assistive technology switches have been designed to help switch users and professionals overcome specific switching problems.
The Switch Filter and Anti-Tremor Switch both prevent unintended activation of a device, such as an adapted toy, caused by students repeatedly “banging” on the switch or from repeat switching caused by an involuntary tremor.
The Sustained Pressure Switch (SPS) requires the user to hold a “sustained” pressure of 1, 2 or 3 seconds on the switch before it turns on the adapted device. The SPS removes the frustration of a casual, unitended touch on the switch turning on the device.
The LIP switch helps students maintain attention on the task during a training exercise by prompting the student to, for instance, press the switch again after a period of 20, 30 or 40 seconds of inactivity.
All of these ideas are covered in more detail on the Dream-Racer website on the Dream-Switch page. Take a look or contact us to discuss any unique situations they may help you or your students overcom.
