We’ve compiled our top three switch adapted and accessible toys for young children with special needs. These toys are suitable for children aged 3-8 years old.
Every year we hear the same question from parents, grandparents and carers “what can I get Sam for Christmas?” This year we’ve made it easy; these are our suggestions.
Nursery Time Bear – switch adapted toy
Nursery Time bear is a plush, talking toy specially adapted for children who use switches. Pressing the switch makes her recite five nursery rhymes favourites: “Humpty Dumpty”, “Hickory Dickory Dock”, “Jack and Jill”, “Little Bo Peep” and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”
This toy will encourage learning by repetition and is an excellent “bedtime” relaxer. Click on this link to watch a video of Nursery Time Bear and find out more here.
Price: £58.00 (inc. VAT) Enter “postage” at checkout for a postage refund.
Thomas the Tank Engine – switch adapted toy
My first remote control Thomas is an ideal switch adapted toy for young children learning to use switches. It’s very simple to control forward and reverse with just two switches.
Thomas chugs along when the switch is pressed but stops when not. When he’s stopped he’ll encourage the child to make him go again by “tooting and whistling”. This toy will reward the child with multi-sensory feedback during play. Find out more here.
Price: £46 (inc. VAT) Enter “batteries” at checkout for a free set of batteries.
Bubble machine – switch adapted toy
Children love bubbles. Our switch adapted bubble machine makes them by the thousand. Connect and press a switch to produce lots and lots of bubble fun. Take it to the Christmas party, play with it at bath time or try to catch them. But most of all watch the kids get really excited when the bubbles are blown along. To get the party started we’ll supply every bubble machine with a big bottle of bubble juice.
Price: £50 (inc. VAT) Enter “bubbles” at checkout. Find out more here.
