Over the last few days I’ve had the chance to do some website spring cleaning. I’ve wanted to update the Excitim website home page for some time now. It was clearly far too techie.
I wanted to show immediately, on the home page, our most popular switch adapted special needs toys:
I have included two new age appropriate buttons and a link to the sensory toys section. Clicking on any of the images with open a new window on the Dream-Racer website showing more details and options.
This is what you’ll see when you land on the Excitim website home page.
It’s now, just over a year since Excitim’s YouTube Channel launched showing videos of our switch adapted and accessible toys as well as interviews with parents and professionals.
Today I checked the viewing stats; altogether they have been viewed over 3,800 times.
Most watched is an interview we did with staff and parents at Kool Kidz Play Group, Parkfield School, in Birmingham and shows kids learning through switch adapted play.

Alongside the new Tolo car and pony club we have also added four switch adapted plush toys to our catalogue. All are available on the Dream-Racer website and from our distribution partners in UK and Europe.
These toys will help stimulate your child in differing ways:
Thomas Old McDonald Bear sings “Old McDonald had a farm”
Peek-a-Boo Dolly engages your child in a game of peek-a-boo.
ICalled Bear – can record a 10 second message
Crawl with me Turtle – crawls along and makes encouraging noises.
All can be activated by pressing a standard 3.5mm switch connected to the toy or by using the in-built switch.
This autumn we have added two new switch adapted cars to our catalogue. The first is the Tolo First Friends Pony Club and the other is the Tolo First Friends Car.
Both are switch accessible using any standard 3.5mm switch and when pressed the child is rewarded by hearing and seeing:
- engine start-up noises
- a honking horn
- flashing head lights and red brake lights
- movement as the cars drive along for about 1 metre.
Both cars are great but I guess some will like the added play elements of the pony and trailer. Which would your child like most?
We have a new addition to our series of switch adapted musical plush toys: Lena Lamb and she’s absolutely adorable.
Press the switch in her arm or one connected to the external socket and she will recite five nursery rhymes:
- “Humpty Dumpty”
- “Hichory Dickory Dock”
- “Jack and Jill”
- “Little Bo Peep” and,
- “Twinkle twinkle little star”
She’s surface washable and comes with batteries. Just connect a switch and let the children play.
In a previous blog I mentioned the four new switch accessible toys we have added to the catalogue on the Dream-Racer website.
Look for the Penguin Racer and Spinning Gears and Cogs toys in the aged 3-6 years section. The Bongo Drums and Sheriff Woody are in the 6-10 years section.
Switch accessible toys from Excitim
With Toy Fair and Spring Fair coming up shortly we will likely add more toys to the catalogue. I’m also keen to add more switch accessible gadgets as well to compliment the camera, boombox and DVD player.
Check-back soon if you can’t find what you are looking for today.
Many people searching for switch adapted or accessible toys will have seen our website www.dream-racer.com quite high in the Google and Bing results. Although, you would never see our other site www.excitim.co.uk mentioned at all. That was because it focused on a process for commercialising technology.
Over the last two weeks Excitim’s content has been changed to reflect all of the effort we put into developing and manufacturing switch adapted toys and accessible assistive technology devices.
Steve at Phoot Creative redesigned the banner and he’ll be working on the look and feel of the Dream-Racer website over the next few months. Let us know what you think of the new banner and content.
“There’s a snake in my boots”, “reach for the sky”, “yer my favourite deputy”
Sheriff Woody is one of three new switch adapted and accessible toys we have introduced as part of our new 2012 collection. Take a look at the Spinning Gears toy and Bongo Drums in the switch accessible toys section of the Dream-Racer website.
We are trying to make it easier for parents and carers to find appropriate toys by suggesting an age range suitability. We’ve included these three new toys as suitable for children aged:
3 to 6 years: Spinning Gears and Cogs
6 to 10 years: Sheriff Woody and Bongo Drums
We’ll be adding more switch toys and gadgets to the range over the next weeks and months.
I first saw this toy several years ago and when I came across it again I knew it had to be in our catalogue of switch adapted and accessible toys.
Children will find the action mesmerising; watching as the penguins are hoisted up the ski-lift ladder, then sliding quickly down the winding slope before they do it all over again. Only when they release the switch will the penguins stop for a ‘breather’.
This is one of a series of new switch accessible toys we are introducing. Take a look at the complete range of toys on the Dream-Racer website.
Are you searching for sensory toys?
Take a look at these sensory musical toys; all are suitable for young children (3-5 years) who are blind, partially sighted or experience hearing difficulties. Based on the recommendations of the RNIB these toys will help develop your child’s sensory awareness by:
- improving hand and eye co-ordination
- learning about sound and pitch
- entertainment and imagination
The trumpet, drums and accordion are three of the musical toys available on our website. As well as sensory plush and rattle toys we produce a wide range of award winning switch adapted and accessible toys for young to mid-teams and media gadgets for older children and adults.
The ultimate boy band …. hard at work making lots of music (well, more likely loud noise) but having fun.
