This autumn we have added two new switch adapted toys to our catalogue. The first is the Tolo First Friends Pony Club and the other is the Tolo First Friends Car.
Both are switch accessible using any standard 3.5mm / 1/8th inch switch and when pressed the child is rewarded by hearing and seeing:
– engine start-up noises
– a honking horn
– flashing head lights and red brake lights
– movement as the cars drive along for about 1 metre.
Both cars are great but I guess some will like the added play elements of the pony and trailer. Which would your child like most?
In 2011 I blogged about Project Natasha; it was all about adapting a radio transmitter with Sipp and Puff switches to enable Natasha control a model yacht and develop sailing skills. It was a big success!
Follow this link to the story on the BBC website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-19520064 and read about how Natasha went on to sail solo around the Isle of White on September 9th, 2012
Natasha, who started sailing when she was 12, has so far raised £8,224 for Isle of Wight Scope, Cowes RNLI Life Boat and the Ellen MacArthur Trust.
She said her next challenge would be the Atlantic, which she described as “my ultimate dream”.
Ever wanted to access digital media such as music, YouTube videos, your own photos and lots of others stuff through an Apple TV set-up. So did I after seeing one demoed at an exhibition.
But, suppose for the moment you have a cerebral palsy condition or limited hand mobility; if so, that may prevent you from using the small button remote that operates the Apple TV.
Normally that would be a problem; but not anymore. There’s a very simple solution based on the Domino Universal infra-red remote.
Take a look at this set-up.
I’ve taught Domino the control codes used by the Apple TV remote to navigate around the menu. Now, everything you need to do using the Apple remote can be done by Domino. With the added advantage of the large buttons or switch accessibility for those users that prefer or need to use switches.
